Thank you, American Veterans

Whether they have served overseas, or just committed 20 years of their life to being a part of the military – Veterans are real heroes, and they deserve more than just a “Thank you” for their willingness to serve our country.

Whether they’ve faced enemy forces in a life or death battle, or just did their job – in whatever field or calling – in one of the branches of the Armed Forces, the attitude of most military veterans is one of duty, honor, and commitment.

While tragedies – such as the recent shooting at Ft. Hood – would mar or smudge the honor that these men and women deserve, don’t let that shape your opinion of them.

There are always rotten apples.

The truth is, for decades – there have been men and women who feel a commitment to the country of their birth and consider it an honor to serve their country in any capacity, and any way that their country calls them to serve.

War IS hell.  I don’t know that from firsthand experience – I’ve just seen the aftermath of war left in the lives of loved ones who have served.  But these men I know – they did their duty – and they were honor bound to put their lives at stake – literally – to preserve the good name of the United States and the freedom on which our nation was built.

I’m not making any political statements here about any war.

What I am saying is that ANY American veteran deserves more than just a pat on the bat or a red rose on Veterans Day.  They willingly risked their lives – or were willing to risk their lives – for mine.  And they deserve my utmost respect.  And whatever taxes are necessary to provide better health care, better mental health care, and better quality of life for our veterans should never be seen as a burden.

While they fulfilled their commitment and duty to our country, at the stake of their life, I should be willing to fulfill my responsibility and duty to support them, at the stake of my wallet.
