So Roy & I have only been at this “Santa” thing for 4 years. And for the most part, I think we’ve handled things pretty well. We haven’t gone overboard too badly and while we include Santa in our Christmas celebration, I’m always conscious of pointing to the fact that he’s only a decoration – NOT the reason for the season.
Still, like the Tooth Fairy (to come) it’s fun to surprise the girls and stir up their imaginations with gifts from Santa under the tree…
Enter a 4 year old who likes to take naps in the van – and two parents who are a little tired lately and who also forgot to bring in the Christmas presents from the BACK of the van after successfully shopping and navigating the madness of Black Friday – and you guessed it.
Santa came early this year…
ACK!!!
Really – I don’t think things are too bad.. Curly only found 2 of the many gifts left in the very back of the van, and many of them will be marked from “Mom & Dad” this year – but OH. MY. WORD.
The horror on my face when I saw her walking into the house with 2 of the dolls we’d bought just a few nights ago…
Seriously people – when God blesses you with children at a later age in life, there should be an EXTRA shot of energy and clarity or something as a bonus…
I’m always trying to outwit them – whether its finally getting Georgie potty trained (working on it) or keeping Curly from discovering the bounty of gifts bought but unwrapped and left in the back of the van…
I need an assistant.
Who follows me around with a notepad so I can shout out lists of things to remember and do, and who will actually remind me to do them! Maybe that’s what I should ask for this Christmas.
Instead, I’ll be (thrilled and) grateful for the extraordinary gift that Roy just ordered for me – the Keurig Platinum Brewer, including the K cup filter and water filter along with (count them) 48 K-cups for our pleasure and enjoyment. (I can barely type that without squealing!!!) Yes, it is a splurge but considering my affinity for coffee shops and cafes, its going to save us a lot of money in the long run. Who needs an assistant? I’ve got a GREAT cup of coffee at the touch of a button.
WOOHOO!!!
I’m starting to think a little bit differently about “Santa” now… =)

LOL, been there!!!! Emily was about 2 when she found her stash in my closet! But the best was last summer RIGHT after we moved into our new house, I mean like there were still boxes everywhere, Emily lost a tooth! And Mommy was exhausted. And Emily was hysterical the next morning when lo and behold, the tooth fairy never came!!!! I felt like the worst mother ever! So I said she was probably just busy and she should try again and the next night, the tooth fairy did come and left a teeny tiny note in her teeny tiny handwriting explaining that it was her “busy season” and she was soooo sorry not to have gotten there the night before, but there was an extra dollar to make up for her mistake.
