Have you ever been to one of those kids’ plays or concerts where the one kid right out in front is bellowing at the top of his/her voice all the words to every song – but always off key? It makes for some good laughs, but when it happens in real life – every day as an adult – it’s pretty discouraging.
I think I’ve been singing off key lately. Some of it has been my attitude about things, but some of it has been this air in our home lately. I don’t know if it’s “cabin fever” having come through several bouts of bugs and ickies in the past couple of months, or what, I just know that we need some FRESH AIR around here.
I am going to “open some windows” around here – literally and figuratively. Only for a few minutes literally, as our high temps are only closer to the 40s – but maybe some of the staleness will clear out and help a bit. Then I’ll light some candles and put on some Praise & Worship music while I do some house cleaning – vacuuming, dusting, sweeping the stairs. That’s always a good feeling, isn’t it?
And I think I need to do some spiritual housekeeping too. I’ve had some nasty attitudes settle in and take root – and of course it ripples out to Roy and the girls and then it’s just NO GOOD for anybody. But there are some other attitudes and actions that have kinda set things off kilter a bit, and I am going ot take some time to pray over them as I clean.
Praying and cleaning go hand in hand together. For me, at least. I need to get my living room back under control, and have been maintaining the kitchen pretty well, but it’s time to stretch out and tackle another “zone” – maybe the “play” room. It’s got a lot of chaos going on – and that’s not good for any of us – and I’ll get the girls to help me get rid of and clean up the toys they have. We have yet to find “THE” system that works for their toys and books, but I’m not giving up yet…
So I hope that today the whole “off key” thing will ease off, and we’ll settle back into a good routine amidst a less chaotic house and a more contented home…

YES!!!!
I’d love to hear how your day/week goes. I’ve been off-key for awhile, too, but with the Lord’s help will be doing something about it!
I feel for ya. Been there many times, as many of us have if we were all being honest. Will keep u in my thought & prayers today. Beth Moore says to read a scripture even if you don’t feel like it or believe it and keep reading it until u do believe it. Its a powerful & humbling thing. Take captive those thoughts. Talk to yourself – don’t listen to yourself
Now, crank up the music & enjoy the “fresh air”.
I love to clear out and let the fresh air in every now and again. A good cleansing and washing away the things that settle are truly great for the mind, heart and body. May the freshness of the presence of the Lord fill your heart and home today.
Well “queen mommy” stay with it.. sounds to me like you have a great start. I am very proud of you and the way you are allowing the Lord to work and be in your life. It is a great challenge and even a greater responsibility to be the wife and mommy that God wants you to be. Although you will fail time after time in being the wife and mother that God wants you to be, just pick up and go on and ask for His help daily.
The verse that I claim daily is “This is the day which the Lord hath made, we will rejoice and be glad in it”. Psa. 118:24. I always put my name in place of (we), and it is amazing what can happen when I do this. Joys, laughter, tears and yes even sorrow can be made easier for us when we take the time to realize that the Lord has made this very day just for us as individuals, and He wants and will take care of all our situiations.
Deb keep on looking up. One of these days (sooner than you would like) you home will be empty of the toys of clutter, not being able to find that shoe or mitten, and finding that half eaten PBJ sandwitch on the chair, but will be replaced by the wonderment of being a grandma and loving those precious grandchildren and being thankful that you have a daughter whose own family is living and serving for the Lord.
P.S. You might remember me as Shelly’s mom— Pat S.
Isn’t it amazing how some fresh air, candles and music can lighten the load? Especially praise music as it causes us to take our eyes off of ourselves and put our focus on the Lord. It uplifts our spirits!
I have lots of straightening to do around here as I was sort of lazy yesterday and left it to today! Hopefully we’ll both be singing on key and even harmonizing today! Thanks for linking up.
I loved the comparison of spiritual/physical housecleaning. It’s SO true! Wish you luck with the playroom– my son has a toybox that needs a major overhaul! BTW– I clean house the EXACT same way– candles, praise & worship music and usually a funky dance with the vaccuum!
Terrific post…thanks for letting us know we’re not the only ones!
