Strange how a teapot can represent at the same time the comforts of solitude and the pleasures of company. ~Author Unknown
As if we need a reason to drink hot tea!!! It is only in the 20′s and snow is falling hard and fast. Be it tea or coffee, drinking something HOT is certainly a welcome choice right now. While I got out with the girls only once to play in the snow (and it was actually raining on Christmas Day here), it was a really fun time and we were plenty cold when we came in. This week, we may actually get snowed in if the snow falls the way they’re predicting!
It’s the perfect time for Hot Tea!!!
Over the holidays, I took to pouring tea from a teapot. Normally I just heat my water in the tea kettle, pour it over a tea bag and I’m good to go – but I thought that it might be a nice change of pace to actually pour from one of my teapots and enjoy a few cups of tea rather than just one.
It was really nice. It didn’t change the flavor of the tea, and I didn’t use a fancy porcelain teapot or china tea cup – but the ability to dress it up just a tiny bit did lift my spirits and made the whole experience “fancy.”
Sometimes I need Fancy…
How about you? Do you enjoy your cup of coffee or tea and just do whatever you can to get it ready quick, gulp it down quick, and get moving to your next “project”?
If you can, why don’t you take a moment to stop for 5 minutes. That’s all you really need: 5 minutes.

Use loose-leaf tea and a mesh teaspoon or tea ball to brew a new flavor of tea. Use a pretty cup – maybe its the one you use all the time – but take time to appreciate your cup. Did it come from someone special? Did you pick it up on a favorite vacation? Take a few minutes to pause and reflect upon the beauty of the gift or treasured memories of a trip.
Smell the tea as it’s brewing. If you enjoy tea, you probably enjoy the scent of tea – take a few minutes and see if you can detect the main flavors, or if the aroma gives your spirits a lift. Before you take your first sip, inhale the aroma. Scent and taste go hand in hand, and you’re likely to enjoy a more flavorful sip this way.
Do you prefer your tea sweetened or with a little milk? I love my hot tea with milk and honey. I’ll settle for sweetener, and forfeit the milk when necessary – but the addition of either ingredient makes for a great cup of tea in my opinion. How do you like your hot tea?

Do you linger over your tea or do you have to rush through it to get to work on time or make it to your next appointment? Schedule some time in the afternoon one day to make a little “ceremony” of drinking your tea and enjoy your cup while listening to a new CD you got for Christmas. Use a linen napkin and a silver spoon. Enjoy your pretty cup or teapot for one (these are PERFECT for work!). The Teapot for one includes the teapot which nests atop a matching teacup.
Have a little basket to hold your supplies and keep it in a bottom desk drawer. You don’t have to buy a lot of things or have matching sets of anything this way. You can probably afford to collect one or two silver spoons, some linen napkins, a few teabags or loose leaf tea with a mesh spoon or tea ball, some honey sticks or sweetener packets – and tuck it all into your pretty little basket. Along with your teapot for one, it’s easy to carry to your break room or coffee service area – and can contribute to your few moments of respite in an otherwise busy and hectic day.
Of course your coworkers may want to “share” some time or take up afternoon tea with you, and then you can add some shortbread cookies or scones and really make it special!
A Tea for One Basket would make a GREAT gift! Whether for a new mom (herbal or fruit teas might be just the thing – and they are 25% off in January at Teaporia!) or a dear friend’s birthday – why not treat a friend to a special gift from you.
Either way, January is setting up to be a great month to enjoy a cup (or pot) of Hot Tea – so enjoy!

I’m not a tea drinker, but you make me wish I was! Many years ago, I tried to sell a lovely tea pot that I never used. Thankfully, it never sold. I love the beauty of the blue and cream colors and the lovely English seal on the bottom. I’ve had it since 1965 and use it for hot cider.
I do love your idea of making time special just for ourselves. I love hot raspberry chocolate and I do use my prettiest cup to savor the moments.
My homemade pies deserve the prettiest and daintiest dessert plates…and so do I! They make me feel special. God made me special and these small ways help to validate the unique lady I am in Christ.
God bless you and your encouraging ministry!
Well, I feel about my coffee as you do your tea! And, I always drink it from a cute insulated mug. It is not the same from any other type mug.
I’m so enjoying your blog!
I love tea. I drink it a lot especially since it helps with flu. I like the gradual energy it gives me vs coffee that makes me crash. I too believe that we should take the 5 minutes to sit and enjoy tea. Following you from MBC http://postpartumillness.com/
