My Friend, GOOT…

I am blaming my house.  I could blame my cat since we’re ALL allergic to him, but everybody else loves him so I’m avoiding that.

Every one of us in my house has allergies (hence my belief that the cat is the culprit.  But I digress…)  We only have the living room carpeted, and I either sweep or vacuum practically every day.  Dust, on the other hand, is a serious issue in our house.  As is our dungeon-style basement. (DON’T get me started….)

We are one another round of sickness in our house.  I’ve got a good sinus infection going on – but Roy and Georgie are really sick…  They ruled out the Flu, RSV, and Pneumonia with Georgie – and essentially both of them have an Upper Respiratory Infection.

We have been snowed in – shut in – this house for weeks, and I am going to have to open a window to air some things out.  I have been cleaning.  I have been vacuuming.  We’ve been washing hands and using hand sanitizer and drinking hot tea.  We’ve been taking supplements and vitamins and drinking more water.  I’ve been eating cinnamon with honey.  But I have to do something else, too…

So last night – I made some GOOT.   Garlic, Olive Oil and Coconut Oil.  Really.  Garlic has been used for centuries for its purported anti-viral anti-infection properties.  We’ve been eating raw garlic for a couple of weeks.  Even Curly.  I’ve been using Coconut Oil for well over a year, now, and Olive Oil is always in my cabinet.  I should have made the stuff in December, but we were sick that month…

GOOT can be used in a similar matter as a menthol based vapor rub.  It can even be spread on toast.  Sounds good with pasta and salad, huh?  Okay, maybe that’s a bit odd…

I happened to sleep all night last night (for the first time in weeks – the girls slept all night, too) and woke up with a sore throat.  I rubbed it on my throat when I got into the kitchen – and while I may certainly ward off vampires hopefully Roy won’t mind the smell.  The point is: my throat feels better.  Seriously.  I even rubbed a little around my nose – and plan to use it often today…  I can’t smell (from said sinus infection) so I’ll have to go based on my family’s reactions…

GOOT is basically recommended for colds, flus, ear infections, sinus infections – anything respiratory…  Rub it on the soles of your feet.  Rub it in or around your nostrils.  Apply it to the ears with cotton swabs.  Rub it on your neck for sore throats.

Here are remedies for colds using garlic and honey.

Or maybe you’re willing to try the LOOGHI remedy…

My mother was old-school Italian and swore by this! I can still remember spending nights with my infected ears stuffed with cotton balls and waking up the next morning right as rain… hope you all are better soon!
