Julie & Julia

I just had a chance to watch this movie, and I’m really glad I did.

My dad was a fan of Julia Child’s while she had her TV shows, and I remember her well cooking in the kitchen.  I can remember some of the things she made – like liver (shudder) – and got the biggest kick out of her cooking style and her obvious love for good food.

Dismissing the token swear words – I found the movie to be inspiring – not just for cooking, but for grabbing into a dream and running with it.

I liked Julie’s character because I could relate to her – starting a major undertaking – getting lost somewhere along the way, but coming around to the end with success.  I liked that.

If you haven’t seen it – I recommend it.  Yes, there are swear words.  And a couple of bedroom scenes that are not explicit in any way, but may offend some.  Julia Child was a BIG character – larger than life.  And Meryl Streep’s portrayal of her was charming.  There were times I forgot I was watching a movie…

It almost makes me want to go out and buy Julia’s cookbook…  But I know I’m not about to bone a duck…

I really enjoyed the dynamics of each relationship for Julie and Julia, too. I’d seen reviews that praised the strength of the marriages highlighted in the film, and that certainly added to the charm!

I loooove her cookbook! And if you really think, you can convert most of the recipes to crockpot recipes! Makes those busy days a little more fancy in our house! BTW, the book is wonderful and very interesting, but the language is awful! Not something you may want to read without a warning.
