Oh, how some people hate the word Christian. Let’s be honest.
Christians are “narrow-minded”, “bigots”, “zealots”, “crazy”, and on and on it goes. Anyone who disagrees with anyone else’s way of thinking – based on PERSONAL RELIGIOUS BELIEFS – is off their rocker, right? Anyone who dares “criticize” or “disagree” with anyone else’s personal choices, preferences, or lifestyle is just plain MEAN.
sigh.
There is no reasoning with the unreasonable. Period.
And human nature defines “reason” in a very personal way. What seems reasonable to me – say wearing sandals even when there’s a dusting of snow on the ground – may seem completely unreasonable to you. So is it reasonable or not?
Because we are so comfortable living within our own personal ideas and thinking, somebody somewhere had to come up with a general set of rules to live by. I mean really, there are people who believe it’s not only their privilege, but their right, to have sexual relations with children.
Who’s to say their wrong if that’s how they feel?
From the beginning of human history, there have been “codes” and “rules” to live by because of this very human way of thinking AND feeling. Anyone hear of the Code of Hammurabi? One of the first set of laws written and recorded by human hands, the code of Hammurabi was a remarkable set of laws for living in Babylonia. There was a NEED for legal system because frankly, if we all did everything we wanted when we wanted, well, I don’t want to think about it.
The funny thing is, when you interject GOD – a Supreme Being, a Higher Power, an Unseen Hand – into the mix all of a sudden everybody is coming out of the woodwork screaming FOUL.
It’s okay for man to determine laws for humanity. But a Creator Being – who supposedly LOVES each and every person ever born – establishing a set of rules to live by – well, RELIGION isn’t going to dictate my choices.
So human reasoning, which we all know is flawed at its best, establishing laws about human behavior is acceptable. Yes, let’s let the imperfect establish rules of justice.
But God-given principles and laws are laid at the feet of “bigots” and the like. Cuz we all know a perfect standard is just too hard to live up to.
Interesting, don’t you think?
