Backyard Farming in the Basement

Most folks in town “farm” in their backyard if they farm at all, right?  There are a number of books on the subject, actually. It’s becoming more popular as people learn to produce their own goods to save money and learn about self-sufficiency.  If we had our druthers we’d live on a piece of land with a backyard farm. For now?  We farm in our basement… That’s where mommy & daddy guinea pig are – Mr. & Mrs....

I’m Still Here. Really.

I’ve got 3 posts percolating around here, but haven’t had the time or frame of mind to get them wrapped up & ready to post. LOL!  I’ve got pics I want to add, and that just takes time.  Little Man is cutting another tooth and we’ve all kinda been battling a not-quite-the-flu-but-don’t-feel-so-good kinda thing – and I’ve been spending a LOT of time reading this week.  Just for pleasure! ...

Join Me in the 31 Days to Clean Challenge

Just to be clear, I am NOT necessarily starting a new challenge for the realm of the internet.  lol.  I’d love to have several of you join me in this and  I’m just wondering if any of you have given any thought to participating in this challenge in January 2012. Saving Money Using Coupons

I love being able to print coupons to save money. I don’t always find coupons for the products my family uses in the newspaper – and finding deals online is a GREAT way to save a little extra money. Here is one source you might be able to use to find more coupons for your family,...

Confessions of a Wistful Mom

I have long held a dream in my heart – and have not necessarily kept it a secret. I would LOVE to own & operate a Bed & Breakfast. It is something I’ve dreamed about for just about 10 years, and was really planted that long ago by the fact that a friend of mine got a job as a nightkeeper at a B&B near a local university.  She learned all about the house and was able to give her friends a grand tour. And she was even...

What Can You Do in Fifteen Minutes?

Sometimes, okay very OFTEN, throughout my day, I come to a point where I have 15 minutes to work with.  An extra 15 minutes that takes me by surprise.  Rather than sitting and fretting over what I SHOULD be doing, I am trying to learn to get up and actually DO something with that time.  Whether it’s the time before Curly gets home from school and her sister & brother are napping – or when Little Man falls asleep in the morning...

Change is Good. Right?

This has been a BIG week at our house.  Serious construction and modifications are under way.  At times, it has meant no water, no phones and no internet.  It has meant going to my in-laws to escape the noise & dust for a few hours.  It has also meant showering in our new basement bathroom. All in all – change is good – but the process is messy. So far things look pretty good.  Electricians and plumbers have been here all...

House Remodel Update: Slow and Steady

So, the house remodel has been, well, SLOW these days.  We’ve had several days when nobody showed up to do anything on the house.  We don’t always know when or if they will be here – and that is only mildly annoying.  If they aren’t here by 9 am, they probably won’t be here.  And I’m okay with that. Otherwise, they are starting by 8 am.  For the most part – I haven’t minded the mess.  In a...

It’s Only the Beginning

It’s official – house remodeling has begun.  I have a new steel door from kitchen to garage – and BONUS – it has windows!  It’s ONLY the beginning! The dropped ceiling in the kitchen was pulled out and drywall was put up.  2 light fixtures will be installed, and 2 current fluorescent lights will be covered according to code.  The kitchen looks MUCH bigger.  The old door was a wooden one – and this one...
