I decided, after looking through the Polished Cornerstones – Projects for Daughters on the Path to Womanhood from Doorposts, to start simply with my girls.  Georgie will be 3 in just a few weeks, and Curly will be 5 a few weeks later.

I am brushing up on A Godly Woman, and specifically focusing on Ruth.  Monday I read them the story of Ruth from their Little Girls’ Bible and we talked about how Ruth was loyal.  We will also be talking about how Ruth was a friend, how she was kind, and how she trusted God.

Ruth is Curly’s middle name, because it is her Mamaw’s middle name – so she is interested in a woman named Ruth…

And then we’ll talk about how God is loyal, how God is our friend, and how God is kind to us.  And why HE can be trusted above all others.

We are touching on Friendship today, and we will be making a Friendship wreath.  Although its just my 2 girls, I certainly want to instill a sense of friendship between them, so we’ll be tracing their hands and using the cut outs to build a friendship wreath.

We’ve had pictures to color, and will talk about Ruth’s character at the end of our two weeks and how she displayed a desire to love and please God, and then how she was blessed because of it.

I decided that we will break things down – in general – over a two week period, so we can really touch on the character trait in a more meaningful and reinforcing way.  Some may extend out, depending on the kinds of projects and things I can find online or at the library to help reinforce the ideas we’re learning about.

And the COOL PART IS that Raising Homemakers is sponsoring a LinkUp each week with other parents who are going through the Polished Cornerstones book, too!  I’m excited about seeing the other ideas and subjects that are being taught and what everyone is learning!

I couldn’t just post this picture without an explanation.  I took it knowing at the time, even though I was upset, I would laugh about it later.  Whew!!!

Basically, I can’t leave the room that my two girls are in. That makes it difficult to do dishes, laundry, or even take care of business in the bathroom…  Yesterday, after not being in the living room for just a couple of minutes, and then hearing my 3-engine mommy siren going off in my head when I realized how quiet it was – Oh. My. Word.  Big sister got the makeup bag out of my purse and decided to share with her baby sister.  And yes, it all came off without any serious injury (thank God for mineral based makeup!!!)img_00511

So Curly was a psychedelic princess.  I was shocked when she didn’t want a pink dress.  And then she wanted the pink hair.  Of course.  We’ve had fun with the pink hair, but those pictures I’m saving for blackmail…

Georgie was a little “queen bee” – there was a bee bodysuit but because of the weather, we just put her in a black sweatsuit and that worked well.  She was more interested in everybody’s dogs than in the candy, and I’m glad I was the one holding her hand, or else Daddy might have let her bring a live “treat” home…

Tthey had a good time.  Because of our high winds during trick or treat – Georgie went to a few houses, and then camped out in a car with her Papaw watching everybody else…  Mamaw handed out candy from our house – and we’ve still got candy left…

Took my philosophy final on Friday evening and got a B out of the course.  Whew!  It was a really interesting course – and I enjoyed the last unit the best.  It touched on philosophy of religion and apologetics, which really made me think.  I love taking these courses online and have registered for 2 courses in the spring already.  Roy & I celebrated with a glass of wine afterwards and that was nice.

So we did get most of the snow that was predicted for our area on Saturday, and we did get the very cold wind & drifting snow on Sunday.  Needless to say, we were generally bundled up and stuck somewhere inside for the weekend.  Roads were bad, the wind was strong, and getting the girls out much was not an option.

Saturday, Princess Curly (formerly CaaaLalla – it was too much to type) & I headed over to her Mamaw’s house and baked & decorated sugar cookies with her 2 older cousins.  It was a lovely, messy, fun time, with 3 children who were so hopped up on sugar, they were like little windup toys, and we got to take a break to eat a good lunch.  (Okay, lunch was McDonald’s, but it wasn’t pure sugar and that was the point.)  It had started snowing around 11 am, and by 12 the car was covered.  Princess Curly had finally crashed, so the cousins & I got to finish the rest.  We had about 7 different frosting colors, sprinkles, cinnamon dots, mini reese’s pieces, colored sugar, decorator icing, etc…  All in all, we baked & decorated at least 6 dozen cookies and had a really good time doing it.  I hope we get to do it again next year.  We were done by 3 pm and had a really good time.  Mamaw has a nice big kitchen table and we got to spread out and make a mess.  Thank you Mamaw!!!

Wanted to get the Christmas tree up, but when the princesses fell asleep (after waking up FAR too early for my taste) Sunday morning, the King & I also took naps and got some rest.  Saturday night I was awakened every 1.5-2 hours by one family member or another, so I was rather groggy and really grumpy until I had a Sunday nap.

We did get to watch the Browns play in a really nasty mess of a snowstorm, and pull off a victory over the Bills.  Even though I am not a “true fan” according to Roy, I do enjoy watching them win.  (When they lose, our castle enters into a period of mourning, a few peasants are beheaded, and King Roy gets in one of HIS moods.)  So, this season has provided more moments of celebration than previous seasons, and for that I’m thankful.  The team seems to have finally gotten some players that play well together and Dawson’s kicks ya just hold your breath and hope the posts send the football in the right direction!

Putting up the tree with Princess Curly’s help iss not my idea of a good time, so I plan to get things moved around when I got home tonight and be ready to put it up after she’s in bed.  She gets so excited about the lights, and I want to surprise her with it in the morning.  I think we’ll stick to just a tree with lights again this year to avoid losing any ornaments or making any trips to the ER because of cut fingers…

For me, this is when the excitement of the season starts settling in.  Baking cookies with Curly & her cousins made me think of Christmas with my brothers when we were growing up and how much fun we had with cookies, decorating, etc.  We always enjoyed it and I have a lot of really great memories because of it.  I hope my girls can grow up with the same kind of warm, fuzzy memories I have.

Of note: Princess KT is 5 months old today.  It’s rather hard to believe.  She is becoming such a happy baby (except for the teething thing).  She has started saying more sounds – na-na-na when she cries (I thought it was ma-ma-ma, but it wasn’t).  King Roy & I coached her last night on saying “dada” and “mama” respectively… She coos, smiles, laughs, flirts, cuddles.  She ADORES her big sister – and can now grab Curly’s hair, which so far, has made Curly laugh.  They just look at each other and smile and I hope that even with fighting & arguing as they grow up, that they remain adoring fans of one another.

So, as you can see in the pictures posted in my previous blog, the princesses are growing up quickly!

Princess KT is really coming into her own, and has the sweetest smiles to give. She LOVES to cuddle and be cuddled. She just rolled over for the first time this week – she’s starting to get mobile, which will be a LOT of fun… She keeps her eyes on her big sister all the time, and any time they interact, she’s all smiles & squeals. She reaches out for our faces now and when we kiss on her, she puts her mouth on our cheeks. She’s drooling bucket loads every day and we expect to start seeing her first teeth soon.

Princess CaaaLalla is potty training herself – just as we expected her to do. I used the last diaper with her over the weekend, and we switched to pull-ups. Now, granted, I am allowing for future setbacks & accidents, but all of a sudden yesterday, she decided that she would go potty for her Mama and wore “big girl panties” all day yesterday without having ONE accident. Her biggest motivators are getting to wear her pink light velour nightgown with silvery suns, moons, & stars all over it, or some sparkly purple mary-janes. If she can wear those, she’ll go potty like a big girl in a heartbeat! Daddy also lights a candle and lets her blow it out sometimes which gives her a big charge – WHATEVER IT TAKES!!! So, she is making progress and we’re really excited for her!

The King & I have had some really nice, sweet moments together lately. It has been really memorable. We’re approaching our 4th anniversary already – and I think parenting has really started forging us into a team. It’s really great to have someone I can talk to about anything – who listens and cares – and takes to heart what I share, what I need, what I want. He’s really wonderful. I can be my ol’ ugly self some days and he still loves me. He keeps telling me I’m a good mommy, and especially these days, that means a lot. I am starting to feel more settled in myself again, and he really lets me explore my thoughts & feelings in a manner that lets me find my way. I appreciate that so much about him. We laugh a lot together and it’s good for my soul. He’s a great daddy and I just love watching his little princess girls melt him into a giant puddle. He denies it, but only half-heartedly… He’s a really good husband, too, and I’m grateful for every moment we’ve had together – every single one of them. I can’t imagine a better teammate or partner for life.

It’s good to be the Queen!
