In Moving News, I can tell you this: Moving is NOT something I enjoy. When I was a kid, a military “brat” – moving consisted of packing my things into a box and spending the next few weeks traveling to visit family in other states and finding our way to our new home. We never carried boxes to a van (and I mean a mini-van, not a moving van). I only had to walk into a bedroom that was designated as mine and unpack my belongings.
Being the mom of 3 in a home of 5 people and moving – well, I was not very good at it. Not very good at planning for it or managing it. Thankfully we have some really awesome friends and willing church people and very patient & hardworking family members who pitched in and as of now, we are 98% moved in. Odds and ends at the old place – boxes to unpack at the new place. And we’re getting there.
Little Man’s room was pink & purple and required some primer. I’ve put a full first coat on of a custom-mixed blue color, and hope to get the 2nd up, this week. Still need to transform his crib to a toddler bed, get curtains for his window and put his furniture in place. The girls room will eventually be painted, but they have beds that have to be taken apart to be moved into their bedroom first, so that’s another project for this week. And finishing a few trips from the old place to the new.
The new place has a well with very hard water and lots of iron in it. Do you know what that means? No laundry, showers or drinking water from this house. Until a water softener/filter is installed. So that’s happening this week too. My in-laws have been really gracious at letting the kids take showers there, making meals for us, helping us move and clean and work with us daily to get settled. My father-in-law has spent HOURS at the new place fixing things and getting things fixed so we can be comfortable. It has been a very big job and he has worked so hard. It is really amazing to have such dedicated friends and family members! My parents brought extra cabinets for my kitchen, and other than needing a coat of primer – they are working out PERFECTLY, so that’s even better.
In Coffee News – yesterday was National Coffee Day. Did you celebrate? I did. Roy put up a new aquarium and was really wrestling getting his filter together, and I helped, so he agreed to give me Starbucks in exchange. I didn’t even KNOW it was national coffee day until the day was half over and he let me celebrate it with a very satisfying, very decadent Salted Caramel Mocha Frappuccino. HEAVEN!
I was supposed to review a book last week, but we didn’t get internet until Friday afternoon just before my parents arrive. My goal is to review the book for you this week – it’s definitely a keeper.
